About
About the library
What the library is, who it is for, and how we source definitions and numbers.
The Metrics Library explains the operating metrics that businesses in each vertical run on, for the people who build software for them: product managers, heads of product, CTOs, and executives at vertical software companies.
Each metric page covers what the metric is, why operators track it, how it is calculated with a worked example, how to read it, definitional choices and pitfalls, how different roles use it, and how to present it. Build detail for data teams sits in a collapsed section at the end.
The library is maintained by Semaphor. Contact: analytics@semaphor.cloud.
Sourcing policy
- Definitions follow common industry usage. Where usage differs, the page shows the variants.
- Benchmarks appear only with a named public source, year, and link. We do not publish "industry average is X" without a citation.
- Examples and the interactive example use made-up numbers and are labeled as such. They are not benchmarks.
- Accounting and regulatory notes explain the calculation, not policy. Confirm treatment with a CPA or counsel.
- Every page shows a version and a last reviewed date.
Machine-readable versions
- /metrics.json: every metric with definition, formula, required tables, related metrics, and version.
- /llms.txt: a plain-text map of the library.
